Vitamins improve the human health

It is now believed that the fast paced lifestyle is damaging our health and appearance. It is obvious that most of us lack adequate sleep, nourishment, and physical exercise. An average adult needs at least thirteen vitamins to keep the body in good shape and appearance. Vitamin E is perhaps the most popular vitamin that is often associated with beautiful skin. It protects fatty acids, keeps oxidation inside the body cells and also helps keep body tissues from breaking down. According to medical experts, people who are 19 years or older require at least 15 milligrams of Vitamin E each day. Good sources of Vitamin E are eggs, tomato, apples, avocados, spinach, potatoes, turnips, etc.

Vitamin C is very essential to the body and deficiency of vitamin C causes Scurvy leadig to inflamed and bleeding gums and tooth loss, slow wound healing, bumps on the legs and arms, and prone to easy bruises. Vitamin C is richly found in citrus fruits such as limes, grapefruit, and oranges. It can also be found in vegetables such as green peppers, potatoes, tomatoes etc. Vitamin D protects the bones and the muscles. An adequate supply of vitamin D3, more popularly known as calcium, protects a person from Osteoporosis. Obtaining this vitamin from food alone may not be easy or sufficient. The most common sources of Vitamin D are oysters, clams, salmon, sardines eggs, beef liver, etc. There are 8 groups of B-complex vitamins and they provide energy for the body and make skin healthy. Fat-soluble vitamins contain only carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen while water-soluble vitamins contain these three elements plus nitrogen and at times sulfur. Vitamins are necessary in small amounts for normal metabolism and for preservation of good health. Vitamins and minerals have no calories and are not an energy source, but they assist in metabolizing nutrients in food. Vitamins also assist in the formation of hormones, blood cells, nervous-system chemicals, and genetic material. Vitamin A plays a crucial part in helping vision, bone growth, reproduction, cell division and differentiation. Vitamin B complex improves the body's resistance to stress and aids in digestion, promotes good muscle tone, healthy skin. Vitamin B complex reduces muscle spasms, leg cramps, hand numbness and helps regulate blood pressure. Vitamin B9 or Folic Acid belongs to the family of water soluble vitamins. The deficiency symptoms of Vitamin B9 include anemia, loss of memory, restricted growth of brain and nerves, paranoia, weakness, skin cracking and sore tongue. In order to make diet rich in Vitamin B9 or folic acid, one should include food items like liver and kidney. Other great sources of this vitamin are green vegetables, cheese and mushrooms.

We should remember that excess intake of certain vitamins may causes side effects. Therefore, vitamin supplements should be safely dosed under the guidance of a reliable medical attendant.
